EXPERIENCED LEADERSHIP DELIVERING RESULTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY

 

A lifelong resident of Rhode Island, Cindy has lived on the East Bay for the past twenty years.

 

Born and raised in Pawtucket, Cindy graduated from Saint Raphael Academy in 1979.  Attending the University of Rhode Island on an athletic scholarship for swimming, she graduated in 1983 with a B.A. in Political Science and Economics.  In 1989, Cindy received a B.S. in Administration of Justice from Roger Williams University.  And, in 1990 she graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy.  In 1994, Cindy was inducted into the Rhode Island Swimming Hall of Fame.

 

From 1985 to 2006, she served as a Rhode Island State Trooper where she rose through the ranks to Lieutenant after having served in uniform, detective and administrative positions.  

 

Upon her retirement, she continued to expand in her area of expertise, public safety compliance. As a consultant, she continued to serve as a certified assessor for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.  From 2013 through May 2015, Cindy was employed as an administrative supervisor within the Department of Campus Safety and Security at Johnson & Wales University and in September 2015, Cindy received an appointment as a Commissioner of CALEA, whose three year term began January 1, 2016.  She is also a member of several professional and community organizations.

 

In 2010, Cindy was elected as top vote-getter for her first four year term in elective office on the Barrington Town Council. During her tenure, she served as Town Council liaison to the Senior Services Advisory Board, United Veteran’s Council, School Committee, Bristol County Water Authority and the Juvenile Hearing Board. 

 

In November 2014, she won her District 32 Senate seat and was officially sworn in on January 6, 2015 for a two year term. Cindy won her second and third term re-elections, and was last sworn in on January 1, 2019. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Agriculture and is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. 

 

Cindy is married to Jerry Coyne and they have four children, Katie, Patrick, Ian and Meghan.
